Directed by Laura Kepley

September 9 – October 2, 2011
Previews:  September 6 & 8

Deb is a divorced suburban mom who reimagines herself as a righteous liberal avenger following the death of her activist mother.  Her daughter Hannah is a typical texting teenager – that is, until she discovers the real reason mom moved them next door to a certain Alaskan presidential candidate. GRIZZLY MAMA is a world-premiere dark comedy from award-winning playwright George Brant about murder, motherhood and moose.

Dobama Theatre’s mission is to premiere the best contemporary plays by established and emerging playwrights. GRIZZLY MAMA?   Paydirt.”

“Brant’s play is filled with the one-liners you might expect, and they are genuinely funny and expertly delivered. The laughs range from twitters to guffaws, and they’re greatly deserved. But the best comedies are educational, not overtly, but subliminally.”
Chuck Yarborough, Plain Dealer. Click here for the complete review.

Dobama is to be commended for commissioning and producing this pungent and insightful play. If GRIZZLY MAMA doesn’t make you squirm a little, you live on a different planet.”
Fran Heller, Cleveland Jewish News. Click here for the complete review.

“Under the slick direction of Laura Kepley , the piece glides seamlessly. And Brant greases the wheels with a number of amusing lines, as when Hannah complains about their new community by telling her mom, “I go to a high school that teaches AP Intelligent Design!”
Christine Howey, Scene. Click here for the complete review.

It is a compelling, intriguing play.
